Info

I wondered if it was okay for me to be strong since I was a girl. And if I could live my life without people calling me an inhuman monster. I suppressed my power out of fear... but I'll stop now. Leave it to me, I'll protect everyone.

Mitsuri Kanroji, Chapter 124

Mitsuri Kanroji ( (かん) () () (みつ) () Kanroji Mitsuri?) is a major supporting character of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. She is also a Demon Slayer and the Love Hashira ( (こい) (ばしら) Koi Bashira?) of the Demon Slayer Corps.[3]

Appearance

Mitsuri is a young woman with fair skin and round, light green eyes with long eyelashes, a small mole beneath each of them. She has long, pink hair that fades into a neon green color at the halfway point, which she wears in three thick braids with five shorter clumps hanging over her face as bangs. When she was trying to get married, her hair was dyed black in an attempt to make herself look more "normal."

Mitsuri wears a modified purple tinted version of the standard Demon Slayer uniform along with a plain white haori that was gifted to her by Kyojuro Rengoku.[4] The chest area of her uniform is left unbuttoned and she wears a short skirt in place of the usual hakama pants. Additionally, she wears a pair of navy blue thigh-high socks layered with the striped lime-green socks Obanai Iguro gave to her and a pair of white zōri with pink straps.

While at the Swordsmith Village, Mitsuri wore a kimono with floral designs.

During her and the other remaining Hashira's fight against Muzan, Mitsuri's left and back braids are cut off by Muzan Kibutsuji's attacks, now shortened to shoulder length, and part of her left ear is also torn at the side.[5] Mitsuri also loses both of her arms in the process of ripping out Muzan's left arm clean off.[6]

Personality

Mitsuri is a very emotional and passionate person who constantly compliments people in her head, likely a contributing factor towards her nickname as "the Hashira of Love." Although she is rather shy and is easily flustered, Mitsuri is always kind to others, most notably towards Obanai, whom she appears to share a strong bond with. However, despite her gentle demeanor, Mitsuri will show no mercy in the face of Demons, instead expressing such sentiments with a fierce tone. She showcases a great amount of dedication to the Demon Slayers' cause. Despite being put out of commission by Muzan at an early stage in their battle, she was determined enough to return and fight, even sacrificing her life.

Given her desperation for marriage, Mitsuri decided to become a member of the Corps with the purpose of finding a suitable husband stronger than her, a rather difficult task given the astounding level of her physical strength. Upon joining the Corps, she felt an immense amount of guilt for her reasoning behind becoming a Demon Slayer to the point where she ate much less than her typical meals. However, she was able to move past those feelings with the help of Shinobu Kocho and Obanai Iguro.[7]

Besides her rather emotional personality, Mitsuri can also come off as somewhat childish at times. When she is asked to explain the process of obtaining the Demon Slayer Mark, she describes it using noises and sounds.

She is a very caring person, always showing others her love as befits her Hashira title. She can get rather excitable, grabbing her friends for a big group hug after the battle against Gyokko and Hantengu.

When she is slashed by Muzan and taken out of the battle by Obanai, she says she wants to be of use and not drag everyone else down. She even begs for Obanai to come back and not get himself killed. This alludes to her love for him, the person she can finally feel for and be loved by. She shares Obanai's hope that they could reincarnate, meet each other and get married in other life.

Abilities and Powers

As a Hashira of the Demon Slayer Corps, Mitsuri is a very powerful swordsman.[8] She is said to have completed the Final Selection within a mere six months of training, which Kyojuro considers outstanding.[4] As the Love Hashira, Mitsuri utilizes a combat style based on "love".

Natural Abilities

  • Master Swordswoman: Being a Hashira of the Demon Slayer Corps, Mitsuri is one of the most powerful and skilled swordsmen in the entire organization.[8]
    • Whip-Sword Proficiency: Mitsuri wields a "Love Sword" that is extremely thin and soft like a whip. She possesses the fastest techniques of the Hashira due to the strong suppleness of her blade, the softness of her muscles, and the mobility of her joints. Due to the difficulty of wielding her sword, only she can use it.
  • Unique Constitution: Mitsuri has a special muscle composition with a density eight times that of a regular human. While her limbs are thin, they possess unbelievable strength and endurance capable of maintaining her body's structure after a point-blank attack from Upper Rank 4. To maintain the composition of her body, Mitsuri eats as much as three sumo wrestlers.[9]
  • Enhanced Physical Prowess: As a member of the Hashiras, her physique has been increased to superhuman levels through years of harsh training combined with the use of the Total Concentration: Constant ( (ぜん) (しゅう) (ちゅう) (じょう) (ちゅう) Zen Shūchū Jōchū?). The members of the Hashira in general have incredible movement speed, all of them have displayed the capability to use blinding bursts of speed that make it seem like they teleported to even talented swordsman like Tanjiro Kamado. The Hashira also possess incredible physical strength, shown when a severely weakened Kyojuro Rengoku could hold down a an Upper Rank Demon with his bare hands, Giyu Tomioka and Shinobu Kocho who can leap great distances effortlessly and Gyomei Himejima who can move gigantic boulders with his bare hands. They also possess superhuman stamina and durability, being able to fight for nearly hours with severe injuries.
    • Enhanced Speed: In her battle against Upper Rank 4, she is able to outpace his normal attacks, thus forcing the Upper Rank to start using Blood Demon Arts.[9] After awakening her Demon Slayer Mark, her speed increases even further. That said, she is not as fast as some of her fellow Hashira, as shown in the battle against Muzan, where she struggled to keep up with him, forcing her to rely on luck and instinct to dodge. This proved unsuccessful as she was hit by multiple attacks, forcing her out of the fight entirely.[5]
    • Enhanced Strength: Since the age of one, Mitsuri possessed immense strength allowing her to carry heavy objects, some weighing about 120 pounds.[9] In the battle against Muzan, Mitsuri was even able to physically grab hold of one of Muzan's tentacles and rip it off, without the use of her blade.[6]
    • Enhanced Flexibility: As well as her body's extreme physical strength and durability, Mitsuri also possesses incredible flexibility and nimble reflexes, being capable of dodging and outpacing Upper Rank Four's attacks and making use of this unique constitution and flexibility to deliver powerful attacks.[9]
  • Enhanced Mental Prowess: As a seasoned swordsman who underwent incredibly harsh and intense training, Mitsuri possesses above average mental capabilities. She could process information and think clearly at supernatural speeds, proven by fighting Upper Rank Demons, who can think at equally or slightly faster speeds. As another testament to his mental capabilities, she has incredible concentration abilities and wits. With an arsenal of techniques at her disposal, Mitsuri has to be really decisive and sagacious when using them, proven when she could hold her own against Hantengu and Muzan Kibutsuji.

Mitsuri's Demon Slayer Mark.

  • Demon Slayer Mark: During her battle against Upper Rank 4, Hantengu's Hatred Clone, Zohakuten ( (ぞう) (はく) (てん) Zōhakuten?), Mitsuri had unconsciously awakened and obtained her Demon Slayer mark, that takes the form of two hearts upside down and opposite from each other with angel wings on both sides where the two heart tips meet that appear near her neck, close to her clavicle. When this manifested, Mitsuri's physical strength, endurance, precision and power increased dramatically to the point she was able to stand on equal grounds against Zohakuten, while he was unleashing his most powerful techniques against her.[10]

Swordsmanship

Love Breathing ( (こい) () (きゅう) Koi no kokyū?): A Breathing Style originally branched out from the Flame Breathing. The forms and techniques that are used in this Breathing Style is a combination of whip-like attacks and therefore can only be successfully performed by Mitsuri due the unique constitution of her body that renders her incredibly flexible and agile, but still possessing inhuman strength due to her muscles being eight times denser than a normal human's, allowing her to deliver fast and powerful blows and move unhindered due to her body not being physically bulky.

  1. First Form: Shivers of First Love ( (いち) (かた) (はつ) (こい) のわななき Ichi no kata: Hatsukoi no Wananaki?)[11] - Mitsuri dashes forward with a series of extended whip slashes that winds around through the target.
  2. Second Form: Love Pangs ( () (かた) (おう) (のう) (めぐ) (こい) Ni no kata: Ōnō Meguru Koi?)[12] - Mitsuri unleashes multiple powerful whip slashes.
  3. Third Form: Catlove Shower ( (さん) (かた) (こい) (ねこ) しぐれ San no kata: Koi Neko Shigure?)[13] - Mitsuri leaps and unleashes a series of ranged arced attacks in quick succession.
  • Fifth Form: Swaying Love - Wildclaw ( () (かた) () らめく (れん) (じょう) (みだ) (づめ) Go no kata: Yurameku Renjō Midarezume?)[14] - Mitsuri somersaults backwards through the air creating a long whiplike string of attacks, before coiling her sword around her opponents neck.
  • Sixth Form: Cat-Legged Winds of Love ( (ろく) (かた) (ねこ) (あし) (こい) (かぜ) Roku no kata: Neko Ashi Koi Kaze?)[15] - Mitsuri twirls upside-down and creates multiple extending slashing attacks before retracting it and extending it again.

Flame Breathing ( (ほのお) () (きゅう) Honō no kokyū?): One of the core Breathing Styles, this style ran in the Rengoku family since Breathing Styles were invented and has been taught to Mitsuri by Kyojuro. However, although Mitsuri has learnt it, she was not as skillful with it and cannot fight to her fullest using it, leading her to solely develop the Love Breathing.[16]
